Chewing.
That’s right, seems simple and you do it everyday right?
Bringing awareness and intention to the things that run on auto is one of the best ways to “interrupt” loops. Whether it’s a chronic pain loop, a nervous system loop, a disconnected with self loop. Looking at our actual design and how our systems actually work, can bring you closer to them and learn how to support and nurture them.
Chewing is the first stage of digestion and one we have more control over (versus something like our smooth muscle contracting). We are so programmed to rush, many of us “under-chew”. Whether it’s eating while scrolling or watching a show or stuffing your lunch down on a quick break… the act of slowing down and chewing each bit more, can have a significant impact on your digestion.
Chewing stimulates the release of digestive enzymes and means the food is spending more time in your mouth allowing more salvia to act, which contains an enzyme called amylase.
A goal? Try to chew slower and 20-30 times before swallowing. Make it a ritual. Enjoy your food, extract the taste, appreciate it.
Watch the healing begin, without reaching for your wallet.
